Product Description
Big-Bait Presence. Direct Swimming Action.
The Carpenter Bluefish BF160–235mm FG combines a large baitfish profile with a straighter, forward-moving swimming action. Carpenter developed the FG series to remain responsive even when the lure encounters substantial resistance during the retrieve.
Particularly effective for hiramasa (yellowtail kingfish) feeding on mahi-mahi, the BF160 FG creates a fleeing-baitfish presentation through coordinated rod work and reeling.
Proven on Trophy Hiramasa
Carpenter’s official field reports document a 19kg (approximately 42lb) hiramasa caught on the BF160 FG off Yamaguchi, Japan. Carpenter also reports a catch specifically on the FG-N during a mahi-mahi feeding pattern.
The 19kg catch report identifies the lure as BF160 FG without specifying FG-N or FG-L.
Key Features
-
235mm profile: A substantial presentation for predators focused on larger baitfish.
-
FG swimming action: Direct, forward-moving action that remains responsive under load.
-
Developed for the mahi-mahi feeding pattern: Specifically highlighted by Carpenter for hiramasa pursuing mahi-mahi.
-
Available variants: FG-N and FG-L.
How to Work It
For the FG-N, Carpenter’s designer Kenji Konishi describes a stop-and-go approach with the rod held low, limited line slack, and short, fast strokes.
Use a rod with enough power to overcome the lure’s pulling resistance. Adjust stroke length, speed, rod angle, and pauses to match your tackle and sea conditions. Effective presentations can vary between FG types.
